Consumer Protection Act No. 8

Consumer Protection Act No. 8 of 1998 established certain consumer rights in Nepal, including the right to information about various aspects of goods and services, the right to consumer education, and the right to be heard and compensated for exploitation and hardships resulting from unfair and deceptive practices. Section 3 of this act established the Consumer Protection Council and Section 23 established a Compensation Committee. Criminal fines and imprisonment are enforcement mechanisms under this act.
