Withdrawals & Refunds

Withdrawal or leave of absence a degree, certificate, or diploma program at Boston University in Brussels is only official when the student submits a completed Withdrawal/Leave of Absence form. Absence from class neither constitutes withdrawal nor reduces a student's financial obligation to the University.

  • Withdrawal/Leave of Absence forms are available in the Brussels Administration Office
  • Forms must be signed by the student and the instructor teaching the course
  • Submit completed forms to the Boston University Brussels Administration Office
  • The effective date of the drop is the day after the last class attended
  • Drop forms will not be accepted after the final class meeting

Federal regulations govern refund calculation and adjustments to federal aid. All students with federal aid should contact the Boston University Office of Financial Assistance at 001-617-353-4064.

Refunds are calculated based on the date that the student completes the Withdrawal/Leave of Absence form and obtains an approval signature from the Boston University in Brussels Director:

  • Withdrawal prior to the first day of classes: 100% tuition and applicable fees
  • Withdrawal during the first two weeks of classes: 80% tuition, 0% fees
  • Withdrawal during the third week of classes: 60% tuition, 0% fees
  • Withdrawal during the fourth week of classes: 40% tuition, 0% fees
  • Withdrawal during the fifth week of classes: 20% tuition, 0% fees
  • Withdrawal after the fifth week of classes: 0% tuition, 0% fees

This schedule reflects refunds of tuition only. Charges for other University services will remain on the bill. It is the student's responsibility to contact the offices involved to determine if they are eligible for a pro-rated or other refund of those charges.

There is no provision for refunds of tuition in case of involuntary separation, including disciplinary suspension or expulsion from the University. Whether or not a refund is given, and at what percentage, is at the sole discretion of the University, and refunds may be approved only by the Boston University in Brussels Director.
