How to Apply for Graduate Degree, Certificate, or
Diploma Programs

Programs at Boston University in Brussels teach contemporary leadership, international relations, and business perspectives and issues that are relevant to anyone who manages people or resources. Programs are open to all qualified applicants who have earned a bachelor's degree from a fully accredited college or university in the United States or abroad and who demonstrate proficiency in English..

How Do I Apply?

Graduate Admissions Committees meet on an ongoing basis. Admission is normally granted for September, January, and April of each year.

You may apply online or by mailing your application materials directly to the department to which you are applying.

Apply online – Complete our online application to apply today. Please note that applicants for the Master of Arts in International Relations must apply through the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.

Apply by mail – Download the application package. Please note that applicants for the Master of Arts in International Relations must apply through the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.

A complete application must include:

• A completed Application for Admission
• A self-evaluation
• Official transcript(s) from each college and graduate school attended
• Score from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
• Three letters of recommendation
• A current résumé or CV
• A nonrefundable $70 (online)/€105 application fee
• Notarized English translations of all documents not in English

MAIR Admissions Criteria

All students in the Master of Arts in International Relations (MAIR) are required to demonstrate graduate-level reading proficiency in English and one other language prior to completion of the degree program. Graduate-level proficiency is the ability to accurately understand newspaper and professional journal articles in the field of foreign relations, using standard reference materials.

TOEFL: Non-native English-speaking students who did not receive an undergraduate degree from a university in the United States of America, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, or Ireland must demonstrate proficiency in English by submitting a TOEFL score. A degree from an English language university located in a country other than the six mentioned does not exempt an applicant from the TOEFL requirement. There are no exceptions to this policy.

GRE: Testing results are compulsory

Three letters of recommendation are also required.
