Congratulations to third-year MFA playwright Cayenne Douglass, whose short play Variable Rates of Kindness was named a finalist for the City Theatre National Award for Short Playwriting! Additional congrats to Boston Theater Marathon playwrights Barbara Blumenthal-Ehrlich and John Minigan, who also made the final list.
Playwright alum Alexis Scheer’s Laughs in Spanish, produced by BPT in 2019, is the recipient of KCACTF’s Harold and Mimi Steinberg National Student Playwriting Award. The award includes a check for $7,500, membership in the Dramatists Guild of America and the Playwrights’ Center of Minneapolis, an offer of publication from Samuel French, and a professional development residency, to be determined, in summer 2020. Three first-year MFA playwrights are Region 1 finalists for the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival. From left: Eliana Pipes (Snow Brown and the 7 Stereotypes) and Ally Sass (Late Night at the Serpent) are finalists for the John Cauble Award for Outstanding Short Play, and Cayenne Douglass (Variable Rates of Kindness) is a finalist for the Gary Garrison National Ten-Minute Play Award. Happy "feasting" tonight to current MFA playwright Cayenne Douglass, who is part of the performance series FEAST at Under St. Marks Theater in NYC. FEAST features three artists each month who practice three different performance-based art forms, creating a space where a triptych of theatre, comedy, dance, puppetry, music, improv, burlesque, and more provoke and inspire each other.
Current MFA playwright Cayenne Douglass and playwright alum Molly Smith Metzler are two of the amazing playwrights included in Smith and Kraus's annual monologue anthologies. Both playwrights appear in both The Best Women's Stage Monologues 2018 and The Best Men's Stage Monologues 2018! Congratulations!
