Boston ROC aims to improve rehabilitation clinical trial and related research by enhancing the capability of medical rehabilitation researchers to understand outcome measurement, and develop and refine measures of key rehabilitation outcomes.
Measuring the outcomes of rehabilitation interventions is a critical element of research design—the yardstick by which efficacy or effectiveness are determined. The selection and use of appropriate measures to address specific research hypotheses is a complex process that requires expertise in measurement theory and clinical trial design. Furthermore, advances in technology have led to the development of innovative approaches to measuring rehabilitation outcomes that require special skills. Lack of expertise in these areas can compromise research efforts. Boston ROC provides rehabilitation researchers with access to resources, training and technical support in selecting and using rehabilitation outcome measures.
