Commencement ceremonies are always full of advice, but sometimes what’s offered rises to another level — more personal, more profound.

At Senior Breakfast on May 1, thousands of people let the pancakes sit and put down half-full cups of coffee to listen to Bridget Mooney. She was in their place just four years ago; the surprises life has delivered since, and her response, make her perspectives unique.

Inspiring is the exactly right label for Ms. Mooney's remarks. I would hope excerpts of her talk could be reprinted in next year's commencement program, on the web, perhaps magnified at the rear of the stage at Nickerson Field, and most importantly, tucked inside each of those graduation caps for future reflection.
