The Boston University women’s indoor track and field team took home its second consecutive America East title in February, breaking two records and earning both performance and coaching awards in the process.

Tahari James (SAR’08) bested two America East records en route to being named the conference Field Performer of the Year for the second year. Her record-setting distance of 12.89 meters in the triple jump helped her reach an NCAA provisional mark, and her 6.1-meter long jump broke the previous America East record, set in 1992 by Karen Phillips (SMG’92).

In the pole vault, Fiona Romeri (CGS’08) had a first-place, career-high vault of 3.45 meters, and Megan LaBella (COM’08) came in third in the pentathlon. The Terriers also pulled off ten top-three finishes in individual field events, including the mile and the 800-, 1,000-, 3,000-, and 5,000-meter runs. And in team events, the BU women won the distance medley and were second in the 4 x 800-meter relay.

The America East Coach of the Year award for track and field went to BU women’s coaches Robyne Johnson, Bruce Lehane, and Michael Eskind.

Another Terrier Beanpot
The women’s ice hockey team made it to its first Beanpot final in twenty-five years by beating Northeastern 4-2 in the first round. But the final saw the Terriers fall to Boston College 6-1 at Conte Forum on February 13. Nicki Wiart (ENG’09) scored BU’s lone goal. The Terriers had hoped to erase the memory of the 6-0 loss to the Eagles during their previous matchup. But BC blasted three early shots in succession at freshman goaltender Melissa Haber (CGS’08), setting the tone for the game.
