Objective: To develop a system that allows blind people to navigate complicated environments with ease.  The system uses ultrasound to echo locate objects and assist navigation via an auditory display which creates the perception that obstacles emit sounds thus allowing normal brain functions to locate those objects.  An ambulatory prototype is currently under development.
