Undergraduate Program in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
“Welcome to the undergraduate program in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB). Over the past few years, vastly improved technologies for analyzing biological and chemical processes have combined with the availability of whole genome sequences to rapidly advance our understanding of the biological sciences. At BMB, we offer students a strong foundation in biology and chemistry that emphasizes the biomolecular sciences. Our majors then have the opportunity to focus on particular aspects of these disciplines and participate in independent research projects that complement course offerings. The BMB curriculum provides exceptional preparation for pursuing advanced degrees in the biomedical sciences as well as entering the biotechnology workforce. In addition, eligible BMB juniors can opt for a combined BA in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and MA in Biotechnology.”
– Dr. Chip Celenza
Pre-Med: The BMB major satisfies all pre-medical requirements. Please visit the Premedical/Prehealth Advising website for additional information.
Undergraduate Student Learning Outcomes:
- Demonstrate mastery of both fundamental and advanced concepts in Biology and Chemistry, with a strong focus on the molecular biological and biochemical components of these disciplines.
- Demonstrate expertise in the scientific method, including experimental design, critical assessment of the scientific literature, and an understanding of the principles and best practices for the ethical conduct of research.
- Attain the technical and/or analytical skills required for employment or post-graduate education in BMB or BMB-related careers, including professional careers and science education.
