Students are encouraged to conduct research projects with Biology Department Faculty members. It is possible for students at all levels to receive academic credit for these research activities. There are also more formal programs that offer summer and/or academic-year research experiences with the possibility of a stipend:

Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP)

The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) is a University-wide effort to connect the Faculty's research activities with undergraduates who wish to pursue research projects. Students may enroll in the program for academic credit, for a stipend, or on a volunteer basis.
