Purchasing in the Biology Department is coordinated through the stockroom which is located in room 107 at 24 Cummington Street. After approval from the Biology Department financial area, most orders for goods and services valued at $1,000 or less are placed directly by designated staff members. Orders for vertebrate animals, controlled substances, computers, office furniture, radioactive materials and orders exceeding a value of $1,000 require additional approvals and are placed by buyers in the university's office of Purchasing Services. When submitting a request, please check with stockroom staff to ensure you have all the necessary memos and quotes to expidite placement of your order. The department has special pricing contracts with Fisher, Sigma-Aldrich and VWR plus freezer programs for New England BioLabs, Applied Biosystems and Promega products. Primary contact for the stockroom is Nate Garrison. The stockroom phone number is 617-353-2468 . Fedex and UPS shipping services are available as well as shipping for goods to be returned. A lab coat cleaning service is provided weekly. Audio-visual equipment can be signed out and services for recycling paper, cardboard, toner cartridges and cell phones are available. The stockroom has a catalogue library, sales representative contact numbers, current university purchasing policies and preferred vendor information.
