The ACDC is a 20-year old non-profit that serves the Asian American community of Greater Boston by developing affordable housing, promoting economic development, fostering new leadership, and building capacity within the community through education, advocacy, and action.

Youth development program: Asian Voices of Organized Youth for Community Empowerment (A-VOYCE) supports young people in projects that provide leadership development and skill building, while raising awareness of critical community issues and Asian American culture.

Linguistic Access Through New Technology: Linguistic and cultural barriers hinder non-English speaking individuals – particularly new immigrants – from gaining access to essential social services and resources.  ACDC has teamed up with MIT’s Community Innovations Lab to develop Speakeasy– an integrated telephone and web service which will link limited-English proficiency individuals to multilingual “Guides.”  These volunteers will offer interpretation services between individuals and city service agencies, community organizations and local businesses via cell phone.

The Asian Mental Health Program provides individual, family, and group psychotherapy to individuals from a variety of Asian countries. The program is staffed with bilingual and bicultural staff and advanced trainees who speak a variety of languages including Hindi, Bengali, Mandarin, and Japanese.

Asian battered women’s program with bilingual staff and culturally appropriate programs. Advocacy services are available for Asian women and their children suffering from domestic violence. Services include: crisis call response; advocacy at courts, hospitals, housing, and social service agencies; emergency shelters; informal counseling to families; and outreach and education programs, including ESL classes and tutoring. Languages: Hindi, Vietnamese, Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin), Cambodian, Nepali, Bengali, Korean, Japanese, and Khmer.

Boston Asian: YES provides a broad range of prevention and intervention services for Asian youth to address problems and barriers, and to build upon their strengths and interests. MAP for Health is a non-profit organization that promotes health, HIV and sexuality awareness, and access to care in Massachusetts Asian, South Asian and Pacific Islander communities through education, advocacy and technical assistance. We aim to break through the profound stigmas and the cultural, familial, social, and political barriers that silence members of the API community, placing them at high risk for HIV infection.

MAAPP targets Asian Pacific Islander MSM/GLBT through HIV prevention services, including group and individual education, counseling, and outreach, as well as education via the telephone and Internet. The outreach focuses on specific venues, and public sex environment.

IAGB is one of the oldest Indian organizations in New England, and over the years has encouraged participation of children and young adults to keep in touch with their cultural heritage, encourage friendship and cooperation in the community.

Saheli is a registered 501(C)(3) organization serving the South Asian community of Greater Boston and Massachusetts. Saheli was founded in 1996 as an affiliate of the IAGB. It provides an emergency fund for survivors of domestic violence, a wide array of support and resources, guidance in areas of career and health, visa and immigration issues, classes towards career and economic independence and social and cultural volunteer opportunities.

Massachusetts Area South Asian Lambda Association (MASALA)
MASALA is a social group based in Boston that provides a safe and supportive environment to New England based Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning South Asians (people from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma, India, Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Tibet; and from the global South Asian Diaspora). MASALA also takes pride in its cross alliance with organizations in the Boston area which strive against social taboos, ignorance, phobia and help foster general awareness in the realm of public health, HIV awareness, and domestic violence prevention.

VACA is a multi-service Mutual Assistance Association which was founded in 1984 by Vietnamese refugees interested in assisting other refugees with the resettlement process here in Boston. Its mission is to promote family self-sufficiency and well being, and to facilitate community empowerment among the Vietnamese population of Greater Boston. Located in Fields Corner, Dorchester, the heart of Boston’s Vietnamese community, VACA meets this mission by providing a wide array of services. These include: English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes, citizenship classes and assistance, health awareness and outreach activities, social services counseling, youth programming, elderly services, and employment services.
