Andrea Allen |
Andrea conducted ethnographic fieldwork
in the study of Candomble in Brazil while
an undergraduate at Northwestern University.
While working with BHLP, she completed her
Masters in Theological Studies at Harvard
Divinity School, where she furthered her
study of African Diaspora cultures and their
religious traditions. Her study for the
BHLP focused on the culturally based ways
Brazilian women in the Boston area describe
feelings and/or symptoms of "sadness"
or "tristeza," and how they deal
with these emotions. In particular, she
will explore whether spiritual beliefs and
practices are a factor in their response
and, if so, in what kinds of ways.
