The Boston University Winter Percussion Ensemble consists of members of the Boston University Marching Band, as well as interested members from throughout the northeast region.  If you are interested in becoming a member of the BUWPE, but did not participate in the BU Marching Band in the Fall of 2012, you must audition for a position in the ensemble.

Placement Auditions for non-marching band members will be Saturday, November 5th in the Boston University Band Room.  Auditions will take place from 10am to 6pm.

Exercise Materials for both battery and front ensemble can be found by clicking the links below.  Please bring sticks and mallets with you to the audition;  all instruments will be provided.

Please review the following information about our audition process:

How do auditions work?
The audition for battery members will consist of a music portion and a visual portion.  We will use materials from the exercise packet and the staff will evaluate your abilities both individually and in a group setting.  Selection of our membership is based upon:

  • Attitude/commitment
  • Ability to attend all scheduled performances
  • Ability to attend all scheduled rehearsals
  • Ability to meet the financial commitment
  • Talent
  • Physical health and ability

Who can audition for the ensemble?
The BUWPE is open to anyone between the ages 18-22 and who will not be over the age of 22 on May 1st of that year’s championships regardless of school affiliation. No high school student whose school has a competitive winter percussion unit may audition for the BU Percussion Ensemble.

Will this interfere with Drum Corps?
Many of our members march with drum corps, and any conflicts with drum corps rehearsals will be evaluated on a case by case basis.  If you plan on marching drum corps this year, please notify the staff during auditions.
