Current Season

Thanks for your interest in the 2012 BUWPE!  Below you will find some information about commonly asked questions regarding the ensemble.  This year, the BUWPE will compete in the WGI and NESBA circuits in the Independent Open Class.

Highlights of this year’s season include:

  • Performances at select BU hockey and basketball games
  • Four local performances at the New England Scholastic Band Association competitions
  • Trip to the WGI regional in Trumbull, CT
  • WGI World Championships in Dayton, OH

How do I become a member?
If you were not a member of the BU Marching Band during Fall 2011, you must audition for the 2012 BUWPE.  Please see the “Join!” page for more information.

What is the ensemble size?
The anticipated instrumentation for the 2012 season is:

  • 8 Snares
  • 4 Tenors
  • 5 Basses
  • 5 Cymbals
  • 4 Marimbas
  • 4 Vibraphones
  • 1 Xylophone
  • 3 Auxiliary Percussion
  • Drum set
  • Bass
  • Guitar
  • 2 Synthesizer

How much does it cost?

Dues for the 2011-2012 Boston University Winter Percussion Ensemble season are as follows:

  • $650  Boston University Students
  • $850  non-BU Students

A $50 credit will be applied to all members of the ensemble who participated in the 2011 Boston University Marching Band.  An additional $50 will be credited to any members of the ensemble who are returning to the Boston University Winter Percussion Ensemble for a second year or more.The BUWPE is able to provide a low cost experience for its members through its close relationship to the Boston University Music Organizations.

The fee covers all travel including local shows, one out of state WGI Regional, and the WGI World Championships in Dayton, OH.  The fee also includes equipment and facilities usage.   We do our best to keep fees low and as a result, we have some of the lowest fees in the activity.  More information on fees can be found under the “Members Only” section of this website.

Can I get a refund? Due to the nature of this ensemble we count on the membership fee’s to properly plan the season; therefore, no refunds can be given after December 15th, 2011. There will be no exceptions.
