Boston University Winter Percussion Ensemble
Started in 2005, the BU Winter Percussion Ensemble is an Independent Open Class ensemble which competes in the WGI and NESBA circuits. Despite its young age, the ensemble is already a 4-time WGI Finalist. The BUWPE most recently placed 10th at the 2011 WGI World Championships in Dayton, Ohio, and was awarded the Open Class “Fans’ Favorite” award for their production “Android (r)Evolution”!
In addition to the ensemble’s accomplishments in the indoor arena, the BUWPE has also become a “fan favorite” at select BU hockey and basketball games, where the group has performed to standing ovations and sell-out crowds in Agganis Arena. The ensemble also performs at a number of events in and around Boston every year. Past performances include playing with the BU Marching Band on Wheel of Fortune to a national television audience of millions on Wheel of Fortune and being the featured performers during the New England Patriots private Super Bowl Ring presentation ceremony following the Patriot’s 2005 Super Bowl victory.
The ensemble currently holds equipment endorsements with Vic Firth, Zildjian, and Remo.
The core of the BUWPE is made up of members of the Boston University Marching Band and Pep Band, and due to the close association with the Boston University Athletic Bands, is able to offer a unique and low-cost experience.
