Scarlet Band 2011
The Scarlet Band is a select group representing the best of what the Boston University Bands program has to offer. In the summer of 2006, the ensemble was formed to promote awareness of the BU Bands program to incoming BU students during orientation events. The ensemble’s mission has evolved to include performances at various university events and functions in addition to its duties to the BU Bands program during the summer. Players represent a diverse cross-section of the performing ensembles available to students at the university including Marching Band, Pep Band, Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Big Band, Honors Combo, Symphony Orchestra, and All-Campus Orchestra.
Membership in the Scarlet Band is by audition or invitation. Preference will be given to those musicians who actively participated in Boston University Athletic Band ensembles; however, all musicians from within the Boston University community who wish to continue performing throughout the summer are encouraged to apply.
Rehearsals will be held once per week on Tuesdays from 6-8pm in the Band Room at 278 Babcock St. With an ensemble of this nature, it is crucial that all members be present at the rehearsal in order for the band to grow and improve. Therefore, in order to be member, regular attendance at weekly rehearsals is required. If for any reason you cannot attend rehearsal, you must submit an absence request at least a week in advance. Consistent absences can result in your spot being forfeited. Performances will be weekly; the Orientation performances consistently take place on Thursday mornings, Thursday evenings, and Fridays midday.
