Boston University Scarlet Band

first SB perf 2012

The Boston University Scarlet Band is a select ensemble that performs during the summer on the BU campus and around Boston. The main purpose of the Scarlet Band is to serve as the “house band” for the University by performing at each New Student Orientation held throughout June and July and to represent the music-making opportunities available at BU to incoming students.

  • Rehearsals are one evening a week
  • Performances are Thursday mornings, Thursday evenings, and Friday afternoons
  • Meals are provided at the Thursday evening performances
  • There are a few weeks completely free of performance and rehearsal commitment in May and in August as well

To Join

This is a great opportunity for BU musicians looking to stay in Boston for free over the summer and play! Please email Aaron Goldberg at for audition information (late-February auditions). Auditions are short and consist of technical excerpts, a lyrical etude, and an excerpt of your choosing. You must be enrolled in classes at BU in the fall to join.

Members of the Scarlet Band must have previously performed in BU Bands ensembles (Athletic, Concert, or Jazz ensembles).

See the Scarlet Band at Orientation this summer!
