Join the BU Pep Band

The Boston University Pep Band is an essential part of the Boston University athletic tradition and is the driving force behind the spirit and fan rituals at all men’s and women’s hockey and basketball games. Numbering well over one hundred members, this band provides a high-energy way to stay involved in the athletic band program well into the University’s second semester.

Since the Boston University athletic teams are perennial contenders in playoff competition, the band has many opportunities to travel to conference and NCAA tournaments, as well as the annual Beanpot hockey tournament, held each February at the TD Banknorth Garden in downtown Boston. In prior years, the band has traveled for important games to New York City, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, Detroit, Cincinnati, Providence, Tulsa, Washington D.C, and most recently 2011 NCAA Women’s Ice Hockey Championships.

The Boston University Pep Band is open to anyone wishing to participate. Instruments can be provided for those who need them.

The first rehearsal of the BU Pep Band will take place from 8-9:30pm on Tuesday September 27, 2011 in the BU Band Room. The first performance of the Pep Band will be Friday, September 30, 2011 at the Women’s Ice Hockey game versus North Dakota. Call time for that game is 5:00pm, at which time we will once again rehearse, as well as sell the Pep Band Uniform Polos.

The BU Pep Band is divided into two evenly balanced bands, which perform at an equal amount of games for all four sports. While your preference for one band or the other will be taken into consideration, the overall balanace and strength of each band will be the final determining factor for placement. It does not matter which band you are assigned to, you may attend any games on the schedule, but you are responsible for your color first!
