Concert Ensembles

The Concert Ensembles consist of the Concert Band, All-Campus Orchestra, Chamber Ensembles, Alumni Concert Band and Wind Ensemble.

There are over 400 members on the BU Bands’ rosters from more than 20 states and representing almost every college on BU’s campus. All of the groups provide fun and exciting ways for the non-music major to still participate in the band experience while pursuing degrees in other disciplines.

The Boston University Concert Band is a select ensemble that provides musicians the opportunity to perform a wide variety of wind literature. Auditions take place during the first week of classes. The ensemble meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:00-9:00 PM. The Concert Band performs two regular concerts per semester as well as other special performances like the Boston Concert Band Beanpot. Chamber Music opportunities are also available to participants of the Concert Band.

The All-Campus Orchestra is a full orchestra with auditions open to anyone in the Boston University community. The orchestra meets Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:00-9:00 PM and performs four times throughout the year. Auditions take place during the first week of classes. Chamber Music opportunities are also available to participants of the All-Campus Orchestra.

The Chamber Music Program provides opportunities for students participating in any of the BU Bands large ensembles (Concert Band, All-Campus Orchestra) to further enhance their music-making experience while at Boston University. Diverse offerings include opportunities such as Flute Ensemble, Woodwind and Brass Quintets, Horn Choir, and more. Students have a chance to explore a diverse body of chamber literature while being coached by a world-class staff of experienced and professional musicians.

Academics are the top priority for every member of the BU Band program. All of the ensembles were created with the non-music major’s schedule and vigorous academics commitments in mind. It is not only possible to succeed academically while participating in the BU Band program, but many of our members excel academically during the busier band seasons.
