Winter Percussion Ensemble - Audition Information

Mallet Keyboard
The mallet players are expected to be comfortable with all mallet instruments and should be able to read music. We do not audition for specific mallet keyboard instruments. You should have a strong understanding of four mallet grip. You are to use which ever grip you are most comfortable (Stevens, Traditional, Burton). Besides skill and technique we look very close at personality and coach-abilty. A 1-2 minute prepared solo is encouraged but not required. We will also have a brief individual discussion regarding the tuition and how you intend to pay. We work hard and have a lot of fun at BU, great attitude is essential!

Drum Set
Drummers need to have a solid foundation and should be able to read music. A strong sense of world styles is encouraged including African (specifically Ghana), Indian and Latin. Please bring sticks, Pearl Export Series kit and Zildjian K-custom cymbals will be provided. Please be ready to demonstrate different styles as well as a 2-3 minute solo showcasing your strengths on the set.

Synthesizer
Synthesizer will be provided. A strong sense of independence and comfortability with odd time meters. Please be able to read music. Prepare a 2-3 minute solo showcasing your strengths.

Bass Guitar
You will need to provide your own Bass, if you prefer your own amp. please bring that as well. You should be able to read music and work well with a drummer and synth. player.

Auxiliary Percussion
A strong foundation of orchestral percussion including accessory instruments (castanets, tambourine, claves, finger cymbals, etc.). You should also have a foundation of world percussion hand drums (tabla, djembe, tubano, frame drum).
