About the BUWPE

Started in 2005, the BU Winter Percussion Ensemble competes in the WGI, USSBA, and NESBA circuits in the Independent A Class. The Ensemble placed 4th at the 2009 WGI World Championships in Dayton, Ohio.

In addition, the ensemble has become a fan favorite at BU hockey and basketball games where the group has performed to standing ovations to sell out crowds at Agganis Arena. In addition, the ensemble performs at a number of events in and around Boston throughout the year. The drumline most recently performed with the BU Marching Band to a national television audience of millions on Wheel of Fortune.

The ensemble’s staff has included Chris Dufault, Jeff Queen, Allen Joanis, Mike Wasielewski, Matt Ramey, Chris Whyte, and Rudy Gowern. The ensemble currently has endorsements with both Vic Firth and Zildjian.

The core of the BUWPE is made up of members of the Boston University Marching Band and Pep Band, and is able to offer a unique and low-cost experience to its members the due to the close association with the Boston University Music Organizations.
