Band Camp
Band camp will begin on Monday, August 24, 2009.
All band members will have from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM to move into their permanent BU housing. Band camp check-in will be from 6:00-7:00 PM in the band room, located at 278 Babcock Street . We will have veteran band members available in the band room on Monday to assist anyone that needs extra help moving into their rooms. Band members needing additional assistance should contact the Band office by August 15. Being able to move in before the thousands of other BU students is just another bonus of being a part of the Marching Band.
Band camp will begin at 7:00 PM Monday in the band room. After a brief orientation session, the band will travel to Boston University ’s Tanglewood Institute in Lenox , MA . We will be staying in dorms while at Tanglewood and all meals will be provided. We will return to Boston University on Friday, August 28 and resume camp on Saturday, August 29.
At Tanglewood, the band will live and work together to kick start the marching season. All transportation to and from the site will be provided. Tanglewood is the summer home of both the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston University Tanglewood Institute . The very large campus has large fields and facilities for our rehearsals, as well as dorms and a fully functional cafeteria.
We understand that, due to travel plans or participation in FYSOP or ROTC, some members cannot start band camp on August 24. Members that cannot attend any of the Tanglewood portion of the camp will be able to join us on Saturday, August 29 at Boston University . Please contact the Band office if you will need to join us on August 29.
There will be ample time for band members to take care of personal business such as buying books, setting up your room, exploring campus, etc. before classes begin on Wednesday, September 2.
Meals During Camp
Three meals a day are provided while at Tanglewood. Boston University meal plans take effect on Saturday August 29, so students can eat at their dining halls after we return from Tanglewood. Ample time will be given to all band members to get to their dining halls for meals during the Boston portion of camp.
How to Best Prepare for Band Camp
Preparing yourself during the summer months both mentally and physically for the marching season will put the Terrier Marching Band on the fast track to success. As the show music becomes available, we will upload it to our website’s secure area for you to listen to and download. We will also add this year’s warm-up and some pep tunes. Downloading and playing your individual part along with the computer will put the band weeks ahead of schedule. If you have trouble downloading the music or parts, or if you do not have access to a computer, call the Band office (617/358-2263) and we will send you your parts and a MIDI recording of the show.
