Concert Ensembles

What is the time commitment for Concert Band?
The Concert Band rehearses 3.5 hours a week - 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Mondays, and 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm on Wednesdays.

What is the time commitment for All-Campus Orchestra?
The All Campus Orchestra rehearses 3 hours a week - 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm on Thursdays.

I have a class that prevents me from making all the rehearsals. Can I still join?
We fully understand that academics take priority. Under certain circumstances arrangements can be made for those students who wish to play in the band but have a regular academic conflict. The student and the director just need to have an agreement about when the student is able to attend rehearsal.

How do I join?
Auditions are held the first week of school in September and on an as-needed basis for the spring semester.

What's the difference between the Concert Band and the Wind Ensemble?
The Concert Band is open to everyone in the university on an audition basis.

The Wind Ensemble is the elite wind band at BU. It is a part of the School of Music, and mostly consists of music majors. However, if a student feels that they are capable of performing at a very high level, they can submit an audition recording of themselves for a pre-screen. If the student is invited to audition beyond the pre-screen, they will be subjected to the same standards for performance and audition material as the music majors auditioning for the Wind Ensemble.
