BU Band hosts Boston Crusaders Audition Camp
On Saturday, December 8th, the Boston University Bands Program hosted a regional audition for the Boston Crusaders Drum & Bugle Corps. Comprised of 150 talented brass musicians, percussionists, and color guard, the Boston Crusaders tour the United States each summer and compete against other corps in the Drum Corps International (DCI) circuit. The ensemble regularly performs for over 300,000 fans per summer, and has been in existence since 1940.
About 28 Boston-area musicians showed up to vie for a spot in this elite group. Similar auditions were also held in Texas and Florida. The corps roster will be decided by January, and members then rehearse once a month before moving-in for Spring Training, where they learn a complex field show before hitting the road for a summer tour.
Corps Director Tom Spataro said of Saturday’s audition, “The BU Bands Program and the students of Kappa Kappa Psi were excellent hosts for the 2013 Boston auditions. The new facilities at BU provided a great setting for our camp, and we look forward to returning to BU in the future and building the relationship between our two programs.”
BU Director of Athletic Bands Aaron Goldberg and BU Bands graduate assistant Kristen Richard were both present, as they will be teaching the brass section of the 2013 Boston Crusaders, and several current BU Band members attended the audition as well.
