Welcome Ben Owens, new Grad Assistant

Ben Owens

Born and raised in Reading, MA, Ben Owens is very excited to be coming back to Boston to pursue a Master of Music degree in Trombone Performance at Boston University.

Ben graduated with a degree in Music Education from the University of Delaware, where he spent four years in the Fightin’ Blue Hen Marching Band, Pep Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, trombone choir, Steel Band, Symphonic Band and an original member of the jazz trombone quintet, UD Slides. Ben has studied with Dr. Bruce Tychinski, Paul Arbogast, Dr. Jay Hildebrandt and Joe Mulligan.

Ben has had quite an extensive marching career, which began when he was 14. Not only has he completed four years of high school and 4 years of college marching band, but also 8 seasons of Drum Corps International. From 2005-2009, he was a member of the DCI Open Class corps, the Citations, based in Burlington, MA. During his 5 years with the corps, he was a featured baritone soloist. From 2010-2012, he spent three summers touring with the Blue Stars, a World Class corps based in La Crosse, WI. He marched his age out year with the Blue Stars in 2012. He is currently on staff with the Reading Memorial High School Marching Band.

Ben is a brother of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and is very pleased to come back to Boston where he can openly root for his favorite teams, the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins.
