Japanese House is one of six language houses at Boston University.
To live in a language house, one must major or minor in the appropriate language or demonstrate a commitment to learning the language by enrollment in a foreign language course. One must also have a commitment to speak the language at all times in the common areas of the house.
Students must plan and engage in cultural activities in the appropriate language and have an active interest in the life, work, culture, and literature of the country or countries where the language is spoken.
Each house has several cultural and social events, including film showings, readings, and talks in the language of the house; is an immersion environment for language learning; and has opportunities to explore the local and international language community.
And, often, the six houses will get together for potlucks and other multicultural events.
