Dr. Gael Orsmond and Dr. Ellen S. Cohn are currently developing and testing a new intervention to promote friendships in adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Adolescents with an ASD participating in the Videos of Important People (VIP) Intervention project will make videos of their everyday social experiences and friendships. The youth will engage in a process of positive self-review and self-reflection using edited video footage of their friendship experiences. The project is expected to lead to the development of a novel evidence-based intervention for providers to use in a range of health and educational settings to positively impact the well-being of youth with an ASD. This project is funded by the Deborah Munroe Noonan Memorial Research Fund.
