Who can participate? 

  • Toddlers (ages 18-59 months) who have a diagnosis (or suspected diagnosis) of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • English is the primary language spoken at home
    OR
  • Toddlers (ages 18-59 months) with no known developmental disorders
  • English is the primary language spoken at home 

What does the study involve?

  • All eligible families are invited to come to Boston University for play-based assessments, an EEG recording, and parent-report questionnaires. (Read more about EEG here!)
  • For families with a child with ASD, the study involves a subsequent 10-week intervention, including either: 
    • 20 individual JASPER sessions (1 hour each, twice a week)
      OR
    • 10 skills-based parent workshops (2 hours each, once a week)



  • Intervention programs are randomly assigned. At the end of the 10 weeks, you and your child will return to the CARE center for follow-up assessments.

What will we receive?

  • Participating families will be compensated for their time, receive a fun toy at each visit, along with an individualized report about the child.
