These frames were actually taken with a digital camera through the eyepiece of the telescope (with a solar filter).

See
the movie created from these images! We were able to take a few
exposures through the clouds (20 second exposures on the Sun!) and get
some stuff just after third contact (right), where the first edge of
Venus hits the edge of the Sun as it's leaving. |

With perks including (but
not limited to) glasses like these, why doesn't everyone want to become
an astronomer? |
There's a group shot of those that
stuck it out to the bitter end (minus Kelly, who took the shot). |

Not much of a transit shot...
but it's still a pretty good shot of the sun over the Charles. |
There's everyone enjoying the transit. |
And just James enjoying
the transit... |
And everyone watching James enjoy the
transit. |
How's that for an action
shot? It takes a lot of practice to get that good at viewing through
a telescope. |
You can see the solar filters used
in this shot pretty well, which look like mirrors at the ends of the
telescopes. We only had one 8" filter, so we left the lens cap
on the other one to prevent accidents. |
