In 1999, BU partnered with Lowell Observatory to operate their 72-inch Perkins Telescope on Anderson Mesa, near Flagstaff, Arizona.  Today, the Perkins hosts two instruments built by BU research teams: an optical imager/spectrometer named the Perkins Reimaging System (PRISM), and an infrared imager, spectrometer and polarimeter named Mimir.  BU researchers have used the Perkins Telescope and instruments for a wide range of science goals, including studies of active galactic nuclei (AGN), low-mass stars in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey and a comprehensive mapping the large-scale magnetic field of the Milky Way.  BU retains access to the 72-inch Perkins Telescope through their latest partnership with Lowell Observatory and the Discovery Channel Telescope.
