A site plan shows an aerial view of the entire site, including excavated areas, major architecture, and the shape of the land (its topography.) As on any topographic map, lines showing elevations above sea level are drawn at regular intervals. (That is, all places on a line are the same elevation above sea level. The closer together the lines are, the steeper the slope.) The site plan is oriented to the geographic grid of the country. The scale of the map is shown, as is north. Can you find on the site plan above: a field of gridded excavation squares? the outlines of the tell? part of the city wall? a nearby stream? the scale?
