III. New Member-Organized Session Proposals and New Workshop Session Proposals
DEADLINE DECEMBER 15, 2013
To submit proposals for the 2015 Annual Meeting, click here.
The Program Committee invites proposals for new Member-Organized Sessions and new Workshop Sessions that focus on special topics. Normally, new Member-Organized Sessions and new Workshop Sessions will have a life-span of one to three years, with the option of renewing.
Member-Organized Sessions are focused on a specific topic or theme and include four to six academic presentations of 15-25 minutes each (depending on the number of presenters).
Workshop Sessions are interactive sessions organized around a tightly focused topic or theme or archaeological site. This format is designed to provide a forum for more sustained interaction between presenters and the audience than is possible in traditional academic Member-Organized Sessions. For Workshop Sessions, it is strongly recommended that oral presentations and/or demonstrations be brief in order to facilitate open discussion between prospective session chairs, presenters, and members of the audience; that no more than half of the workshop session time may be taken up with presentations; and that the number of presenters be no more than ten.
All presenters/participants in both Member-Organized and Workshop Sessions must submit Abstract/Participation Forms via ASOR’s online abstract submission system by the February 15, 2014 deadline.
Individuals interested in organizing new Member-Organized Sessions and new Workshop Sessions are encouraged first to contact the co-chairs of the Program Committee (Geoff Emberling and Danielle Fatkin). Please note that new session proposals are far more likely to be accepted, if they are submitted with a slate of speakers already scheduled for the first year.
Deadline for submission of new Member-Organized Session Proposals and new Workshop Session Proposals was December 15, 2013. Applications must be complete and thorough in order to be considered.
B. Format for New Member-Organized Session Proposals and New Workshop Session Proposals
New Member-Organized Session Proposals and new Workshop Session Proposals must be submitted online via the ASOR New Member-Organized Session Proposal Form or the New Workshop Session Proposal Form. If you have any problems with these forms, please email the Program Committee co-chairs (Geoff Emberling and Danielle Fatkin).
Prospective session chairs will be asked to submit the following information.
- Whether the proposed session is a MEMBER-ORGANIZED SESSION or a WORKSHOP SESSION.
- Proposed NAME OF SESSION
- A STATEMENT OF THE AIMS of the session and a brief synopsis of these aims. The statement must include the reasons for holding such a session and how the individual presentations will relate to one other.
- NAMES, ADDRESSES, PHONE NUMBERS, AND CVs of the proposed session chair(s) and statement of commitment by the proposed session chair(s) to serve as the liaison with the program committee, coordinate the session’s annual program, keep appropriate records, and complete session evaluation forms in a timely manner.
- Statement that prospective chairs have reviewed the Instructions for Session Chairs on the Annual Meeting web page that familiarizes session chairs with instructions for final submission of materials and the information that will be needed from the presenters and chairs.
