The Distribution of Functional Projections in ASL:
Evidence from overt expressions of syntactic features

Neidle and MacLaughlin

From this page, download digitized QuickTime movies exemplifying the grammatical ASL utterances cited in the handout. There are 32 example movie files in all, which together require about 35 MB of disk space. The handout is available as a pdf file, with the glossed examples linked to the appropriate movie files.

In order to make use of these materials, you must have QuickTime (www.apple.com/quicktime) and Acrobat Reader 3.0 or later (www.adobe.com/acrobat), which are available for both Macintosh and non-Macintosh platforms.

To download the materials, first download the pdf file containing the handout and then the set of movie files that go with the handout, using the links provided below.

If you have a fast connection to the Internet and would like to download our entire on-line digital movie library (there are over 100 movie files available), you can use an ftp program (like Fetch or Anarchie) to perform a multiple download of all the movies in one operation. By anonymous ftp, connect to "louis-xiv.bu.edu/pub/asl/movies/". From there, you can select all (or some subset) of the files and perform a "multiple get." These movie files can then be used in conjunction with similar pdf documents provided for other ASLLRP publications. Otherwise, you can download the movie files one at a time from this page, using the links below.

These materials are also available on CD-ROM at cost. For further information, send email to carol@louis-xiv.bu.edu.

Before you download: If your browser is configured to view pdf and/or QuickTime files via a plug-in, you will need to option-click (Macintosh) or right-click (non-Macintosh) on the links in order to download the file to your local system.

NOTE: If you are using Aladdin's Stuffit Expander software, please make sure you are using a recent version. (If you are using Stuffit Expander 4.5 for Macintosh, make sure its preferences are set to not perform any cross-platform conversion on text files. If conversion is performed, the pdf files will become corrupted; see http://www.aladdinsys.com/support/techsupport/mac/dlx/dlx9.html.)

Download the pdf file: venice99.pdf (156 K).

Download the movie files: The table below lists the examples (in gloss form) for which movies are available.

Click on the movie icon(s) next to the example to download the movie(s).

Note that in order for the links within the pdf file to the example movies to function correctly, the movie files must be located in a subfolder/directory named "movies"; the "movies" directory and this document should be located in the same folder/directory.
