Statistics about the data contained in these files can be seen at <link coming soon>.

Video files

Video data were collected from Deaf ASL signers from Deaf families in the National Center for Sign Language and Gesture Resources at Boston University (NCSLGR) under the supervision of Profs. Carol Neidle and Stan Sclaroff.

Synchronized video files showing multiple views of the signing are provided. This includes a front view (in many cases, 2 stereoscopic front views are available), a close-up of the face, and often a side view.

The ASLLRP NCSLGR SignStream CD-ROM's include compressed video at 30 frames per second. (For volumes 3-7, the videos play by default at 50% speed; the media controller can be used to play the video at normal speed.)

Information about alternative access to other formats, generally including 60 frame per second uncompressed video: <link coming soon>.

Annotations

Annotations were carried out by researchers participating in the American Sign Language Linguistic Research Project (ASLLRP).*

The ASLLRP NCSLGR CD-ROM's include the videos (in QuickTime format, compressed, 30 fps) and annotations, for viewing within the SignStream™ application; SignStream™ software is required.

Information about access to the annotations in XML format: <link coming soon>

SignStream™ software (and soon also annotations in XML format) can be downloaded from the Web.

SignStream software: runs only as a Classic application on Macintosh computers.

Note that Classic applications do not run on Intel processor-based Macs, nor with Mac X 10.5 or higher. A new Java implementation of SignStream™ is currently under development, with release anticipated in the relatively near future; it will be compatible with annotations carried out using the current version, SignStream™ 2.2.2.
