Book Exchange
Program With Asian Institutions
|
|
|
The sources of our knowledge lie in what is written on bamboo
and silk, Growing interest has created a demand for Western
archaeological publications at research institutions across Asia,
and for difficult-to-find Asian archaeological and art historical
research materials in the West. ICEAACH has established a major book
and journal exchange program and we ask for your assistance. We collect
donated publications for distribution to libraries at key institutions
in China, Viet Nam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, and other countries
that train students in archaeology and related fields. These institutions,
in return, collect and send to us difficult-to-find periodicals and
excavation reports for our publicly
accessible library, and for distribution to other Western libraries
that need them. As this mutually beneficial program expands, we need
your tax-deductible donations.

We need your books
and journals!
|
|
| Please send: Books and journals on archaeology, anthropology,
analytical techniques, GIS, remote sensing, history of technology, art
history, religion, history, antiquities legislation and preservation,
religion, and related fields for all world areas - any language,
any quantity. Everything from general cultural surveys, excavation reports,
exhibition catalogues, and multi-year runs of journals, will all find
appropriate homes.
Tax issues: Your donations will be a gift to ICEAACH and are fully tax-deductible, including the value of the donated material and the expenses you incur in packing and shipping it to us. Before shipping your donation, it would be very helpful if you could e-mail a list of titles and bibliographic information. For donations exceeding a value of $5000, the IRS might require that you obtain an outside appraisal of the donation. We will be happy to give you the name of several book dealers who specialize in archaeology, art history, and Asian materials that could provide this service for you for an appraisal fee. How to get the material to us: Please pack the materials securely and ship them by UPS, or mail them through the US Postal Service by the very economical Library Mail rate. The rate is approximately US$16.31 per 50 pounds. Eligibility includes: "generally books, recordings, educational and museum materials... (and these) may be sent...to, from, or between...a nonprofit organization... and an individual who has no financial interest in the sale, promotion, or distribution of the materials." (Quick Service Guide 740-Package Services-Library Mail). You may need to cite this regulation at your local Post Office, should they question your use of this rate. You can print an overview of the Library Mail Rate regulation from the United States Postal Service Web site. The packages should be addressed to: Library Exchange Program |
