David Hebert is an ethnomusicologist and comparative educationist with specializations in Japan and New Zealand. He has published in a dozen different peer-reviewed journals and taught internationally for Moscow State University, Tokyo Gakugei University, and Te Wananga O Aotearoa. His cross-cultural research interests include musical creativity, transculturation, nationalism, competition, and educational policy. Professor Hebert‘s forthcoming book Wind Bands and Cultural Identity in Japanese Schools (Springer/Kluwer) is an ethnography among Japanese bands in the world’s largest music competition.
