As an archaeologist focusing on China, David Cohen's
primary areas of interest and research include state formation and ethnicity
in early Bronze Age China as well as the Pleistocene-Holocene transition
and the origins of agriculture in East Asia. He is involved in several
fieldwork projects excavating late Neolithic and early Bronze Age sites
in the lower Yellow River and early agricultural sites in the middle
Yangzi River regions. As Project Manager of the ARC/Base Project, Dr.
Cohen coordinates the work of an international, collaborative team of
leading research institutes across East Asia in their work of compiling
a comprehensive, multilingual database of bibliographic information on
East Asian archaeology. This project, funded by the Mellon Foundation,
is based at ICEAACH.
