Professor of Anthropology
Thomas Barfield's primary areas of interest include
social anthropology, political economy, anthropology as it relates
to history, and pastoral nomadism. His geographical area of focus
is the Near East and Central Asia. His current research focuses
on war reconstruction and economic development in Afghanistan as well
as its political reorganization. Professor
Barfield is widely published, and most recently he has edited The
Dictionary of Anthropology (1997).
