Katja Kleyensteuber graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 2016, where she earned a B.M. in Music Education, magna cum laude, and membership in the Phi Beta Kappa Society.

For three years, Katja taught in Claremont, NH as Music Director at the high school level. She doubled the size of the music program and expanded her teaching and conducting experiences from concert, marching, and jazz band – to choir and musical theater. The process and product of organizing multiple visits to Boston, for many of her students to experience their first professional orchestral performances, sparked Katja’s interest in the field of Arts Administration.

Katja has worked with musicians in a variety of teaching and performance settings from elementary through high school, and well beyond. Remaining active as a composer, conductor, and trombonist, she has guest conducted and performed in various NH ensembles and in the Dartmouth College Wind Ensemble as principal trombone.

After relocating to the Boston area in order to pursue graduate studies, Katja accepted an instrumental teaching position in the Newton Public Schools. With the goal of making music more accessible, comprehensible, and enjoyable to a wider ranger of audience members, she is currently pursuing Master’s degrees in Music Education and Arts Administration at the Boston University.

I am excited to study Arts Administration at Boston University because it is located in a city with prominent roots in the arts. Through its rich history and current artistic culture, I plan to take full advantage of the learning opportunities that Boston and the university have to offer. The opportunity to learn from professionals with a variety of real-world experience and to intern with some of the best professional performing organizations in the field is an educational experience that I am eager to embark on while advancing in an exciting career.
