Students
matriculating in the arts administration program are required to
have some direct work experience in arts organizations prior to
degree conferral. A minimum of six of the ten required courses must
be completed before the student undertakes the actual fieldwork,
although the planning phase may begin earlier. The program maintains
a formal relationship with a core group of potential host organizations
that have been selected for their willingness to work with interns,
although it is possible to intern with other organizations as well.
The student is expected to complete a total of 150 hours of work
with the host agency, generally within a single semester.
The
Arts Administration program at Boston University has allowed me
to grow both professionally and artistically complementing the administrative
and performing experience acquired in my native Israel. This past
year, I served as assistant director of Mozart's "La Finta
Gardiniera" performed by BU's Opera Institute and was a development
researcher for BU's Tanglewood Institute youth summer camp. This
summer I will serve as the marketing intern at the Berkshire Theatre
Festival in Stockbridge, MA. These "real world" opportunities
combined with a comprehensive curriculum and supportive faculty
and staff make me confident that my career is on solid ground.
