Associate Director of Development

Located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, World Music/CRASHarts (WM/CA) seeks an Associate Director of Development to assist with all aspects of the organization’s fundraising and development communication efforts. The Associate Director of Development will work closely with the Director of Development to implement all aspects of institutional advancement including membership acquisition, individual giving, special events, grant writing, research and reports, and data management. The Associate Director of Development plays a key role in helping WM/CA reach its annual fundraising goals by growing its membership program through direct mail solicitations, stewardship, social media communications, and analysis. This position has high growth potential for a self-starting and entrepreneurial development professional with strong administrative skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Membership and Individual Giving:

• Develop and implement a comprehensive direct mail, email, and social media solicitation strategy for membership acquisition and individual giving programs; primary responsibility for entry level membership acquisition and stewardship

• Process and acknowledge donations, generate renewal letters, and administer membership benefits; maintain and update donor/membership records in database as needed

• Oversee the preparation of development reports, donor research, and data analytics

• Maintain development webpages and online giving forms for WM/CA website, and develop digital communications

• Oversee design, production, and publication of all development-related publications

• Attend and staff events, concerts, and meetings as requested

Corporation and Foundation:

• Research and assist with preparation, writing and development of foundation, corporate, and government grant proposals

• Track grant submissions and assist with final reports

• Solicit program ads for concert program books from businesses and other organizations

Member and Audience Engagement:

• Co-manage CRASHers program (for 21-40 year olds) and set benchmark goals and objectives for engagement of this age group through communication strategies and special events

• Direct membership acquisition for CRASHers program and develop a leadership council

• Coordinate implementation of fundraising and member events

• Assist with engagement and educational programs related to visiting artists’ touring schedule

• Maintain records and provide data analytics for all membership activities as required for reporting and special projects

• Research and partner with community groups as appropriate, representing WM/CA at community events and forums

Other Administrative Duties:

• Staff and attend concerts as required

• Provide optimum customer service to members, donors, volunteers, and ticket buyers

• Support Box Office staff in ticket sales

• Track website, email, and social media response rates and usage as related to membership

• Recruit, supervise, and manage Development Interns

• Oversee office volunteers and stewardship

• Other duties and administrative support as assigned

Required Professional Skills:

• B.A. in Arts Administration, Communications or Business—ideally with two to three years of work experience in fundraising, marketing, or administration

• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills—experience with grant writing a plus

• An affinity for social media and online research tools

• Strong customer service orientation with the ability to interact with a diverse constituency

• Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office programs including Excel and PowerPoint and a talent for working with databases (data input, manipulating data, creating reports, etc.)

• Ability to take initiative and to work both independently and as part of a team in a hands-on environment

• Strong organizational skills, resourceful, detailed-oriented, and ability to multi-task

• Willingness and ability to work some evenings and weekends

• A high level of respect for confidentiality and ethical practices
