  1. I’m glad that BU is putting in more bike racks. However, the racks shown in the pics for Warren garage represent a poor implementation. Vertical racks should be used sparingly, and should be farther apart than shown in the image. The “hurdle” rack is simply inappropriate — in fact, it’s considered unacceptable by Cambridge’s zoning requirements for bicycle parking, and unacceptable by the MAPC (Metropolitan Area Planning Council) bike rack grant program. Bike racks should have two points of contact to allow users with both chains and U-locks to lock both a tire and the frame to the rack without risk of the bicycle falling or leaning severely. A for effort. D for implementation.
