| Vernacular
Reframed, a two-day interdisciplinary conference will
elaborate on the themes explored in the exhibition In the
Vernacular: Everyday Photographs from the Rodger Kingston Collection
being held concurrently at the Boston University Art Gallery
(click here for more information on the exhibition).
Speakers will re-examine the
social practices within which photographs have been produced
and consumed through the following topics: approaches to the
vernacular, a vernacular history of photography, vernacular
pictures and practices, and the vernacular collector. The
conference is designed to re-examine the definition of vernacular
photography as we bring together traditional interpretations
with more contemporary reappraisals of the medium. Our goal
is to outline a model of photographic history that can account
for the diverse totality of photographic creation and use.
Vernacular
Reframed hopes to confront the crisis in the history
of photography provoked by vernacular images by bringing together
the foremost scholars in the field to advance the debate on
the vernacular. (CLICK
