The Boston University Art Gallery Presents
Sidney Hurwitz: Fifty Years
Exhibition Dates: February 13, 2009 – March 29, 2009
Opening Reception: Thursday, February 12, 2009 from 6:00-8:00 pm
(Boston) - The Boston University Art Gallery (BUAG) begins 2009 with the presentation of Sidney Hurwitz: Fifty Years. The exhibit is a collaboration between BUAG and the Boston University School of Visual Arts featuring the work of Professor Emeritus of Art at Boston University (BU), Sidney Hurwitz.
Sidney Hurwitz: Fifty Years is Hurwitz’s first major retrospective exhibit and will feature prints spanning the last five decades of his career. No stranger to Commonwealth Avenue, Hurwitz has maintained a nearly 35 year-long relationship with BU. “I am so pleased that my work is being exhibited at BU where I studied and taught for so many years,” featured artist Sidney Hurwitz said. “The show is truly my view of the last 50 years, including my experience with urban imagery here in Boston.” The exhibited work ranges from his early woodcuts and figure studies of the late 1950s to the intricately rendered etchings of industrial architecture for which he has become well know, and which he continues to pursue today.
The exhibit is associated with The Boston Printmakers 2009 North American Print Biennial event presented by the Boston University College of Fine Arts and being held at three of BU’s on-campus art galleries. Hurwitz is on the Board of Directors of the Boston Printmakers and works out of the Fenway Studios in the Back Bay neighborhood of Boston.
Dedicated to serving the public of New England as well as the university community, Boston University Art Gallery (BUAG) is a non-profit art gallery geared toward an interdisciplinary interpretation of art and culture. Maintaining an ongoing exhibition schedule in its current location since 1958, now named the Stone Gallery, exhibitions focus on international, national, and regional art developments, chiefly in the twentieth century. BUAG has a particular commitment to offer a culturally inclusive view of art, one that expands the boundaries of museum exhibitions.
BUAG is located at 855 Commonwealth Avenue, at the Stone Gallery inside the College of Fine Arts building on the Boston University campus (BU West T stop on the "B" Green Line). Gallery hours are Tuesday-Friday 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Saturday & Sunday 1:00 – 5:00 PM (closed Mondays and holidays). For more information, please visit www.bu.edu/art.
