Boston
University Art Gallery Names Director
& Assistant Director
Stacey
McCarroll has been named Director & Curator
of the Boston University Art Gallery by the University Administration.
McCarroll has been with the gallery in various capacities since
1996, most recently in the position of Acting Director & Curator
since 2002. A specialist in the history of photography, she worked
as a project consultant for the Polaroid Collections in Cambridge,
Massachusetts and was Assistant Director of the Fahey/Klein Gallery
in Los Angeles from 1988-1991. She has taught the history of photography
in California and Massachusetts since 1994. McCarroll completed
her B.A. in Art at the California State University, Fullerton,
and received an M.A. in Art History from the University of California,
Riverside. She was a 2001-2002 recipient of a Henry Luce Foundation/American
Council of Learned Societies Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship
in American Art and is currently completing her Ph.D. dissertation
titled, Intimate Images. The Public and The Private
in Twentieth-Century American Photography. McCarroll is also
developing various exhibition projects and publications for the
Boston University Art Gallery including the forthcoming exhibition
and catalogue, California Dreamin’: Camera Clubs and
the Pictorial Photography Tradition, scheduled to open in
January 2004.
Rebekah
Lamb has been named Assistant Director
of the Boston University Art Gallery. Formerly Director of Development
for the Boston Center for the Arts and Director of Communications
at Real Art Ways in Hartford, CT, Lamb also worked as a freelance
grant writer for numerous Boston organizations before joining
the Boston University Art Gallery team in the Fall of 2002. She
received her Masters of Science in Arts Administration from MET
College at Boston University in 2000. During her training, she
worked as the Development Coordinator for the Boston University
College of Fine Arts. Lamb has developed and completed numerous
projects for the gallery over the past year including a new web
site and an e-newsletter, which have successfully resulted in
more streamlined and cost effective communications with gallery
constituents. Lamb has also increased the Gallery’s contributed
income through her grant writing efforts, and facilitated the
planning and execution of numerous other projects by identifying
and implementing new technology needs. As Assistant Director,
Lamb’s primary responsibilities will be centered around
fundraising, internal and external communications, and the day-to-day
operations of the gallery.
The
Boston University Art Gallery has an exciting season planned for
the 2003-2004 academic school year.

The Boston University Art Gallery (BUAG) is
a non-profit art gallery geared toward an interdisciplinary
interpretation of art and committed to a culturally inclusive
viewpoint that expands the boundaries of the museum. Exhibitions
focus on international, national and regional art developments
chiefly in the 20th century; seek to present the cultural and
historical context of art, and to acknowledge the artistic contributions
of under-recognized sectors of the population. BUAG is located
at 855 Commonwealth Avenue, inside the Boston University College
of Fine Arts (BU West T stop on the B Green Line). Hours are
Tues.- Fri., 10-5pm and Sat. & Sun., 1-5pm. The Boston University
Art Gallery is free and fully accessible to the public.
