Boston University Art Gallery is pleased to present SIMPATICO, an exhibition of work by nine influential New York and Boston-based artists: Polly Apfelbaum, Nicole Cherubini, Cheryl Donegan, Dana Frankfort, Joanne Greenbaum, Jenny Monick, Carrie Moyer, Dona Nelson, and Laurel Sparks.

Each work in the exhibition foregrounds technique and pushes the medium through an active investigation and dissection of abstraction, while exemplifying common attributes made visible through the artist’s engagement with painting. Many of the works were conceived through action-oriented methods, made visible through paint and glaze stains, the presence of handiwork, or the orientation of brushwork.

The word “simpatico” captures the context of this exhibition to express and secure the multiplicity of relationships established, maintained, insinuated, and assumed throughout the show. A limited edition catalogue accompanies the exhibition.
