Serena Smith-Patten, B.A.
Serena Smith-Patten is a first year dual-degree student currently pursuing an M.P.H. in Social and Behavioral Sciences and an M.S.W. in Clinical Social Work at Boston University. As part of her studies, Ms. Smith-Patten also plans to complete the School of Social Work Trauma Certificate Program. Ms. Smith-Patten graduated with a B.A. in Molecular and Cell Biology, emphasis in Neuroscience from the University of California, Berkeley. Subsequently, she has examined caregiver substance abuse, mental health and HIV/AIDS status as it affects the mental wellbeing of young children, in both California and Kenya. Her research interests include early childhood trauma, complex family trauma and resiliency, and the implementation and evaluation of evidence-based practices.
