Dr. Lena Lundgren, Director at The Center for Addictions Research and Services, will be one of the lead speakers at the Harvard Medical School “Treating the Addictions” conference, March 9 – 10, 2012 in Cambridge, MA. Her contribution will focus on addiction treatment, specifically looking at who gets treatment, who does not and why these differences exist.

Dr. Lena Lundgren, Director of The Center for Addictions Research and Services, is a consultant and advisory board member on a multi-year research project (2012-214) funded by the Finnish National Institute of Health (Principal Investigator: Kerstin Stenius) on the consequences of a national integration of the Finnish mental health and addiction treatment policy and services systems. In this role, Dr. Lundgren will provide a lecture to the Finnish N.I.H. and the public on U.S. experiences with integration of addiction and mental health treatment policy and services systems, as well as advise the principal investgator on research design and results dissemination.

The Center for Addictions Research and Services ongoing national study funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Substance Abuse Policy Research Program to identify barriers to implementation of evidence-based practices in addiction treatment organizations continues to generate additional publications and presentations. Dr. Lena Lundgren was recently invited to speak as part of the World Health Organization Experts group meeting on research, policy and intervention priorities to address HIV transmission associated to or resulting from drug use in the Region of the Americas.
Dr. Lundgren discussed the importance of increasing organizational capacity of Community Based addiction treatment and HIV outreach organizations in order to improve the implementation of community HIV prevention services.

Dr. Lundgren has been awarded a two-year Guest Researcher Fellowship at the Swedish National Institute for Social/ Labor Market Research in collaboration with Umea and Stockholm universities.
