			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Lisa de Saxe Zerden, MSW, PhD, will present at the <a href="http://www.2009nhpc.org/">2009 National HIV Prevention Conference</a> which occurs August 23-26, in Atlanta, GA.</p>
<p><strong>&#8220;Needle sharing behaviors of Puerto Rican injection drug users in a dual-site study: Acculturation matters&#8221; </strong>is derived from Zerden&#8217;s dissertation research and is co-authored by Luz Lopez, MSW, MPH, PhD and Lena Lundgren, MA, PhD. The study aims to identify the acculturative markers associated with needle sharing among Puerto Rican injection drug users.</p>
<p>Zerden was granted a new scholar scholarship by the National Center for HIV, STD, and TB Prevention, Centers for Disease Control, to participate in the conference. Zerden, a former staff member at the Center for Addictions Research and Services, completed her Doctorate in Sociology and Social Work at Boston University School of Social Work.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Center for Addictions Research and Services is pleased to announce that two abstracts were accepted to the <a href="http://www.apha.org/meetings" target="_blank">American Public Health Association&#8217;s Annual Meeting</a> in Philadelphia November 7-11, 2009.</p>
<p>&#8220;<strong>Implementation of evidence-based substance abuse treatment by community-based organizations: Preliminary results from a national study</strong>&#8221; describes community-based organizations&#8217; (CBOs) variations in organizational responses to  federally-funded evidence-based treatments (EBTs). This national study is funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.</p>
<p>&#8220;<strong>Factors associated with recent incarceration in a Latina/o criminal justice sample</strong>&#8221; discusses the association between housing status and maternal contact, public assistance, and recent incarceration of drug-using adult Latina/o women and men in Massachusetts.</p>
<p><strong>&#8220;Differences in mental health symptoms and attempted suicide among Puerto Rican drug users in Puerto Rico and Massachusetts&#8221;</strong> was accepted for an oral presentation and is authored by Luz Lopez, PhD, MSW, MPH; Abigail Ross, MSW; Deborah Chassler, MSW; and Lena Lundgren, PhD.</p>
